After Gerry graduated from OH he took grade 12 at Montreal High.
An opportunity was presented to him to work in the export of Canadian building products. He has since been recognized as a lumberman, a family man, an entrepreneur, a horseman and a survivor.
He married his Eaton’s Council sweetheart, Joan Candy, in 1962 and has three wonderful children, sherry, Carol and Gerry Jr.
With his entrepreneurial spirit on fire, he started a wood-shavings business in 1968 with an intense focus on the US marketplace. With both daughters as accomplished equestrians, he embarked on a journey of investing in future Olympic caliber equines from prized European stock. In 1983 at the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto, he was presented with the Governor General’s Cup and the Lieutenant Governor’s Cup for his horse ‘Sail On Sam’.
Gerry’s most recent chapter is a very personal one. In October 2004 he suffered a massive brain aneurism. Although all initial indicators were grim, Gerry, with his incredible strength, constitution and will to live, pulled through.
He currently leads a retired lifestyle with his wife Joan. Except for the challenge of his short term memory loss, he continues to amaze us all!
