After Outremont High and a BA at McGill, I attended Teachers College at Columbia University getting a Masters in Psychology and Teaching. That summer, Dolly Ptack and I took a great trip travelling across Europe in our rented Deux Cheveaux, and then on to Israel. I returned to start my first full time job working at a private psychology center alongside Bill Brender and Jack Raby (see Bill's bio). Finally, to my mother's great relief, I got married (at age 26 and after one of my younger sisters) to Gerry Soiferman, a Montreal High graduate and an architect.
Our daughter, Maira, a feisty redhead, is a businesswoman in Phoenix. Our son, Ezra, an ardent environmentalist, is a Montreal filmaker. While the children were young, I started a private tutoring group with a few colleagues. A bit later, another opportunity fell into my lap - I was asked to replace a psychology teacher, who was on maternity leave, at Dawson College. I am there to this day, finally obtaining Permanence (tenure at CEGEP) at age 65 - about 5 years after I had started contemplating retirement!
After all these years, I find myself still passionate about the same ''subjects'' as I was in high school - art, music and literature. This was the legacy provided by the many wonderful teachers we had, in particular Mrs. Mackey and Mr. Johnson.
Our two grandchildren, Mia 9, and Anthony 8 - a great source of enjoyment - come to stay with us in our country house (designed by their Zaide) to escape the heat of Phoenix in July and to get a taste of real winter in December.
Here's to some good catching up and reminiscing at the event.
