Graduated in physical education, received a B.A. in political science and an M.A. in Sociology. I taught for 28 years — 6 yrs. in High School, then the “Y”, industry and private groups. National judge in rhythmic gymnastics and also participated in the 1976 opening Olympic ceremonies in the ribbon routine.
After our oldest son Jonathan suffered a traumatic brain injury while a passenger involved in a serious car accident I worked advocating and promoting travel for the disabled.
In 1999 I became North American administrative representative for Middle East Newsline (menewsline.com). The daily report focuses on defense, strategy, arms and energy in this region.
I loved teaching phys.ed in high school and the rapport with students out of class no way resembled that of Barb MacPherson and Stuart Davidson. My office in the gym was a place where lots of students hung-out at recess, lunch time and after school. I loved coaching and even went into school on Saturdays to coach. Many of my teams won city championships. I see and communicate with former students regularly on of whom went into physical education and has been retired for 5 years now!!
In 1962 I married Gibby. He was a passionate sailor and in 1997-98 sailed around the world with our daughter Cathy and several friends at different times. I joined him in the South Pacific, Indian Ocean, South Africa, Caribbean and Europe. We have also sailed to Lebanon and visited Syria. My passion is adventure travel. I have visited Afghanistan, climbed Kilimanjaro, white water rafted the Zambezi and and swam in the Antarctic. Travel is a big part of our lives. We have an apartment in Jerusalem which we acquired when Jonathan was living in Israel and we wanted him to have a home-away-from home and spend much time there now even though he no longer lives in Israel.
When I am in Montreal I take courses at the McGill Institute for Learning in Retirement. I am very involved with the New Israel Fund and Peace Now. In 2006, six months after Katrina we spent one week in St. Bernard’s Parish in Louisiana helping the evacuees. I have just returned form India where I participated (with Brad Pitt!) in my third build for Jimmy Carter Work Project for Habitat for Humanity.
We have 4 children — Jonathan who lives in Kelowna B.C., Dawn (Missy) who is married and lives in Tortola, B.V.I. and is temporarily retired after selling her hotel, Cathy is a chef living in Italy and Randy who is a part time artist in Montreal.
