After high school I went on to get a B.Ed at McGill and then set up the first “special class” in Montreal(!), under the supervision of a Child Psychiatry team at the Montreal Children’s Hospital.  Two years of teaching these neurologically impaired children sent me to Syracuse University where I received my Master’s Degree.  While studying in syracuse I was active in the Civil Rights movement and decided to work (for 3 months) in the South after 3 civil rights workers were murdered.

I married Eitan Wugalter, a draft resister from N.Y.  We had one son, Rafael, who had to give up his dream of being a musician when he realized he didn’t have, ultimately, the skill and drive needed to become a brilliant oboist!  So he did a law degree at McGill, passed the N.Y. Bar, and to my dismay, never practiced law, instead forging a career as a legal translator.  He and his partner, Joanne Lapendyk live in Ottawa.  Eitan and I were together about 15 years.

After Syracuse I was hired as Head Teacher in the brand new child Psychiatry Dept. at the JGH, where I continue most happily to work.

My partner of 15 years, Bob Feinstein, (newly retired CEGEP Teacher) and I returned last week from Kampala, Uganda where we, along with our core group of 4, and some Concordia University Volunteers, set up a summer school for children whose (remaining) families cannot afford school fees (though ed. is supposed to be free in Uganda)

And next week I return to work a the JGH!

Voila.

I look forward to our reunion.

Hi Judy,

I always remember you discussing Shakespeare with Mrs. (?Miss) McQuaig in English Lit class.  How I envied you understanding the poetry and commenting intelligently about it.   As you can see, I still don’t write very well.  Anyway, looking forward to seeing you again next year.
