Graduated McGill University, B.Com, 1961 and CA, 1963

Started as Staff Internal Auditor in 1964 at Pratt & Whitney Canada, and progressed through several executive appointments.  Became CEO in 1985.  Remained as President &/or Chairman and CEO until retirement in 2001, at which time Pratt & Whitney revenues exceeded $2 billion.

Married in 1963 to Marion Harris.  Our daughter Andrea, a graduate of McGill University and University of Chicago Business School, is married to Dr. Richard Grostern and they have given us our only grandchild, Sara, age 5.  They live in Chicago.  Our daughter Stephanie has a B.Com from Concordia University and is a CA.  She lives in Toronto.

Marion and I now spend much of our time visiting our children, travelling the world, and wintering in Florida.

Obituary

It is with profound sadness and heartbreak that we announce the passing of Lazarus David Caplan on Saturday, June 2, 2018. He was a dear husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. Laz was the son of Bluma z"l and Max z"l Caplan. He leaves to mourn his cherished wife and best friend of fifty-four years, Marion Harris; his children, Stephanie and Robert Pelcowitz, Andrea and Richard Grostern; and his beloved granddaughter, Sara Grostern. Devoted brother and brother-in-law of Marsha Caplan, Minnie and Israel Lipman, Ruth and Mendy Dalfen. Dear brother-in-law of Esther and Dave z"l Dalys, Toby and Nat z"l Cohen, Phyllis Lazar and Bernie Harris z"l. He will be greatly missed by his nieces, nephews, cousins, colleagues, friends and all those whose lives he touched. The family would thank Dr. Samuel Mamane and Dr. Petr Kavan for their exceptional care and compassion. He had a good run! Funeral service from Paperman & Sons, 3888 Jean Talon St. W., on Monday, June 4 at 1:00 p.m. Burial at the Shaare Zedek Congregation Section, Eternal Gardens Cemetery, Beaconsfield. Shiva at his home, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. daily. Nut free, strictly Kosher meals please.
