Cliff Leznoff graduated from Mcgill (Ph.D., Organic Chemistry, 1964). He joined York University in 1967 and retired (2005) as Distinguished Research Professor. Leznoff is the co-editor of the four volume set Phthalocyanines--Properties and Applications, considered the ‘bible’ of phthalocyanine research. He received the 1999 Bader Award in Organic Chemistry and in Rome the 2006 Linstead Award in Phthalocyanine Chemistry.
He maintains an active research program, but is a devotee to tennis and bridge. He is married 43 years to Judith (neé Issenman), and has three sons, Danny (married to Junko Suzuki), Michael, and Ben and one grandchild (Sayako Rachael).
